One easy trick if you're a pasta fan is to swap out white pasta for the wonderfully named courgetti (spaghetti made from spiralizing courgette). You’ll hardly notice the difference when you’re eating it, but you’ll be fuller for longer despite consuming fewer calories. When you consume fewer calories, your body can go to your fat reserves for energy, rather than just burning off the food you’ve eaten.
But, seriously, is the appetite something new? I was constantly hungry, even immediately after eating a big meal, when I was vitamin D deficient. That wasn't normal for me, and it went away after I had the replacement therapy. I'm really not suggesting that you start popping supplements, please don't do that. But if this is a new thing it might be worth considering that there may be a reason for it.
In England, almost 7 out of 10 men and 6 out of 10 women are overweight or obese, and a quarter of adults are obese. Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing serious diseases such as type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and some cancers. The risks of developing these diseases increases the more overweight you are. Obesity can also affect your quality of life and lead to psychological problems, such as depression and low self-esteem. Ideally it is better to avoid becoming overweight by eating healthily and exercising regularly and maintaining this throughout life. But problems with weight gain are common so here is some information to help you lose weight sensibly and healthily.
It’s important to remember that lifestyle change is not just about weight loss. If it were, cutting calories would be the only requirement. My goal is to improve my overall health, which means looking at the types of calories and nutrients I’m eating. That’s why, two months into my lifestyle change, I decided it was time to incorporate some additional rules from the Dietary Guidelines:
Next up, be real with yourself. What is your body’s healthy weight? What is it easy to maintain when you’re relaxed, eating well and exercising? It might not be a size 2 and it might be 5 or 7lbs more than what you WANT, but especially for us women, a six pack and zero body fat percentage isn’t great from a hormone standpoint. In fact, you’d be surprised how many fitness models actually lose their periods because they don’t have enough body fat. So, be real with yourself and stop stressing about just a few pounds!!!
Get spicy! According to recent research published in the journal Physiology & Behavior, just half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper can boost metabolism and cause the body to burn an extra 10 calories on its own. Not to mention that for those who don't regularly eat spicy meals, adding cayenne pepper cuts an average of 60 calories from their next meal. Do that at two meals a day for a month and you'll lose 4 pounds without even trying!
