There is no long-term fasting research yet, but the benefits are promising and the risks low: You can always just quit. A limited-time fast might bump you off a plateau or out of a rut, says Keri Glassman, R.D., who advised our fasters during their diets, though she says that for some, fasting, even short-term, may be too rigid. That hints at the larger takeaway: Perhaps more than for traditional diets, these plans won't work for everyone.
For a detox diet to truly work, you need to maintain these three key organs by nourishing your body with the right nutrients. Dr. Oz’s 48-Hour Weekend Cleanse is based upon eating certain “detoxifying” foods that will keep these systems running smoothly. The plan couldn’t be simpler to follow so you’re not always focused on what to eat next. You'll need to prepare and eat the following meals and snacks two days in a row. To get ready for the weekend cleanse, print out the complete cleanse shopping list and make a trip to the supermarket. Get the shopping list here.
For a pink and perky dieting treat, this luscious mint detox water is a festively progressive selection. With two tablespoons of raspberries, tartness is practically this drink’s middle name. These antioxidants are riddled with cleansing properties. The mint base shows that this brew means business. While the fruit goes to work by kicking out all unwanted biological agents, the mint leaves have a contrastingly calming effect. This duality results in a complementary approach to aiding digestion and losing weight. It is hard to believe that such a sweet treat has so few calories. This medicinal blend is downright addictive and sublime.
Why it Works: Water keeps the contents inside your digestive tract moving along. Your body needs water in order to pee and sweat. Both mechanisms are essential for your body to excrete waste. Water also creates what’s known as diet-induced thermogenesis. This means your body burns calories in order to process whatever is coming in, including water. One study also found that subjects who drank water throughout the day saw a 2% to 3% increase in calorie expenditure.
A lifelong dependency on 7Up and Sprite can finally come to an end with this carbonated detox blend. All it takes is 1 lemon, 3 limes and a sparkling spritzer. Fake sugars can finally be discarded, and their disappearance will be joined by the vanishing of several pounds. This is a great brew for getting slimmer and trimmer. It is a delicacy worthy of cherished sipping. Each taste singes the tongue with zesty ferocity, and your belly will thank you for freeing it from soda once and for all. This drink will replace the former waste with an actual waist!
I've been drinking the tea for awhile and noticed I've been needing to use the bathroom more frequently than usual. My stomach gets cramps from having my system detoxified and I feel lighter and more full. I haven't noticed any weight loss yet even though I exercise. Maybe I need to work out more? Hopefully I'll lose a bit by the time the bag is empty...

This is another wonderful fruit that you can easily add a cup-full of to any detox drink. Be warned, though, that cranberries in their raw form are quite tart and sour. In case you’re wondering, you cannot substitute real cranberries for the sugar-fortified craisins. Cranberries in their raw form have been shown in studies to fight urinary tract infections. Their cleansing power lies in a class of antioxidants called proanthocyanidins, which amplify the potency of other antioxidants that fight free radicals.
Because… Juice fasts and restrictive diets can make you lose muscle because such plans are low in protein—the key nutrient for muscle building and maintenance. Because muscle is calorie-burning tissue, you can end up with a slower metabolism, or calorie-burning capacity, meaning you'll be more prone to weight gain than you were before. On top of that, you'll likely feel hungry and tired without sufficient protein to help stabilize your blood sugar and tame your appetite. No wonder extreme diets almost always fail in the long term.
Oolong, a Chinese name for “black dragon,” is a light, floral tea that, like green tea, is also packed with catechins, which help to promote weight loss by boosting your body’s ability to metabolise lipids (fat). A study in the Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine found that participants who regularly sipped oolong tea lost six pounds over the course of the six-week time period. That’s a pound a week!
According to Kühn, the study results show that it is not primarily the dietary method that matters but that it is more important to decide on a method and then follow through with it. "The same evidence is also suggested in a current study comparing low-carb and low-fat diets, that is, reducing carbohydrates versus reducing fat intake while otherwise having a balanced diet," said Kühn. In this study, participants also achieved comparable results with both methods.
We had to include green tea because it’s as mainstay as it gets. We especially recommend matcha green tea due to its high flavonoid profile. Green tea is even widely available in capsule form as a weight loss aid. What makes Green tea a top weight loss cleanse drink? Aside from containing a bevy of antioxidants that help flush the liver, it’s also long been touted as a natural fat reducer. How so?

Prolonged very low calorie diets can cause physiological changes that may cause the body to adapt to the calorie restriction and therefore prevent further weight loss. Intermittent fasting attempts to address this problem by cycling between a low calorie level for a brief time followed by normal eating, which may prevent these adaptations. However, research does not consistently show that intermittent fasting is superior to continuous low calorie diets for weight loss efficiency.
So now you have completed the Master Cleanse 10 day diet. Before resuming your normal eating habit of processed food, it is highly advisable for you to slowly ease out of a fast like the Master Cleanse to avoid severe digestive problems or gaining all the weight you lost immediately. This process is similar to the Ease-In but only in reverse. Follow this stage to a T to get the ideal result you always wanted out of fasting and to be on the safe side.
Jeni S., a 31-year-old mom of two and group fitness instructor, first discovered cleanse diets after talking with a fellow fitness instructors. "I was complaining to her about my post-holiday bloat and she recommended I try a cleanse to 'flush' it all out and sort of reset everything." On her friend's recommendation, Jeni started with the Shakeology Jumpstart Cleanse—"a nutrient rich, calorie restrictive cleanse designed to help rid your body of undigested food and other toxins." She adds, "The goal is to get as many nutrients with as few calories as possible."
