Instead, they’re sweetened with the sugar alcohol Erythritol. “The upside is that sugar alcohols are not as artificial as some of their counterparts in the low/zero calorie sugar industry,” says Smith, “but they can cause gastrointestinal upset like gas a diarrhea when consumed in excess—although some say that erythritol may be better tolerated than other sugar alcohols. The other plus,” she continues, “is that unlike other sweeteners—specifically artificial sweeteners—they are not thousands of times sweeter than sugar, so they may cause less metabolic confusion in terms of sweetness as compared to caloric delivery, although more research still needed.” Brilliantly, this root beer tastes like the real thing—and is clear, because there’s no caramel color. In addition to a control group, one group was given a high-fat diet with no tea supplementation, and three groups were fed a high-fat diet with varying doses of pu-erh tea extract. The researchers found that the tea significantly lowered triglyceride concentrations (potentially dangerous fat found in the blood) and belly fat in the high-fat diet groups. Although sipping the tea could have slightly different outcomes in humans, the findings it might be worth your while to fix yourself a steaming mug of the stuff to literally shrink the size of your fat cells.
Intermittent fasting — the most popular form of fasting today — consists of eating within a specific window of time in the day, and not eating for the remaining hours of the day. For example, one popular version of intermittent fasting is the 16/8 method. This entails a nonfasting window of eight hours (such as 11am to 7pm) followed by a fasting period.

It sounds insane, but I found I was actually looking forward to my fasting days because I felt so good, especially on Mondays, as a way to reset after a deliciously indulgent weekend.

In other words? “Drinking makes you more likely to eat sh*t,” Dr. Seltzer says, referring to drunk foods. At the same time, he stops short of asking patients to quit alcohol cold-turkey to lose weight. Plus, research suggests you don’t have to, as long as your intake is moderate—i.e., less than about a drink a day. “If you drink a glass of wine every night and notice you eat more afterward, eat less early to account for this,” he says. “Or, if you’re drinking four glasses of wine a week, drink three instead so you’ll won’t feel such a big difference.”

At about age 35, on the morning after a day of overeating, I tipped the bathroom scale at 254 lbs., a few pounds more than I had ever been. This was a scale which, as I knew, was very “kind”. As near as I can figure, my actual weight was about 270. (I’m 6’1″.) I ate little that day, and the next morning I was a couple of pounds lighter, at 252 on the kind scale. The shocking high weight and the encouraging quick loss probably both reflected temporary changes in how much food was moving through my system at the time, more than any changes that were were likely to last. Still, they together provided me the motivation to finally try to take measures to address my very real problem in a serious way. I resolved to lose weight, and did, by both diet and exercise, bringing my weight down about 45 pounds over the course of about 6 months, and then keeping my weight down there for a few months after that.
I continued to do morning CrossFit classes or runs, and I felt great since I was fueled from dinner the night before. I was used to not eating before my workouts, so nothing felt different here. I still had tons of energy and endurance. The only times I felt crappy were if I didn't eat enough protein and healthy fats the night before, but that had nothing to do with ADF.
A systematic review of 40 studies found that intermittent fasting was effective for weight loss, with a typical loss of 7-11 pounds over 10 weeks. [2] There was much variability in the studies, ranging in size from 4 to 334 subjects, and followed from 2 to 104 weeks. It is important to note that different study designs and methods of intermittent fasting were used, and participant characteristics differed (lean vs. obese).  Half of the studies were controlled trials comparing the fasting group to a comparison group and/or a control group (either continuous calorie restriction or usual lifestyle), with the other half examining an intermittent fasting group alone. A brief summary of their findings:
Oi Ocha means “Tea, please!” in Japanese. And to that we say, “Yes! Thank you!”A bottle of this calorie-free, sugar-free green tea provides slightly less caffeine than a tall cup of coffee and some impressive detox benefits, especially when consumed pre-workout. In a recent study, participants who combined a daily habit of 4-5 cups of green tea each day with a 25-minute sweat session lost two more pounds than the non tea-drinking exercisers. What makes green tea so waist friendly are compounds called catechins, belly-fat crusaders that blast adipose tissue by revving the metabolism, increasing the release of fat from fat cells (particularly in the belly), and then speeding up the liver’s fat burning capacity.

Sorry, kitchen’s closed (for 12 to 15 hours since you last ate). Nighttime fasting—or reducing your “eating window”—may help to reset your metabolism and burn the extra glucose in your system after a period of overindulgence, according to researchers at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. The scientists fed adult mice one of four diets—some high in sugar, some high in fat, some both. And each of the four diets contained the same number of calories. From there, mice in each diet group were then given set times to eat. Some could eat whenever they wanted, others were restricted to feeding times of 9, 12 or 15 hours a day. Regardless of what kind of diet they ate, and regardless of the fact that they ate the same number of calories, mice in the 9-hour and 12-hour groups remained healthy, while all of the mice in the 15-hour group became obese.
