A specific type of continuous (every day) fasting diet is called a protein sparing modified fast or a very low energy diet. These limit you to 1,800 to 2,500 kilojoules a day, every day. They use products called formulated meal replacements, in the form of milkshakes or snack bars to replace most meals and snacks. These are supplemented with vitamins and minerals to meet the body’s nutrient needs.

I’m absolutely in love with the way these products have made me feel! I haven’t felt bloated sense I start. Cardiovascular disease risk factors, which usually improve with weight loss, were similar in both groups, with two exceptions: "Bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) levels were significantly higher in the fasters after a year. But, Varady says, "we did have a subgroup of people who had pre-diabetes, and they saw bigger improvements in insulin resistance, inflammatory factors and triglyceride levels with alternate-day fasting."
I didn’t give up. I started tweaking things, increasing my exercise a bit, and being more disciplined in my eating. These efforts were important, I think, but they didn’t put me back on the path of weight loss, but just stopped my freaking-out body from gaining weight quickly. In other words? “Drinking makes you more likely to eat sh*t,” Dr. Seltzer says, referring to drunk foods. At the same time, he stops short of asking patients to quit alcohol cold-turkey to lose weight. Plus, research suggests you don’t have to, as long as your intake is moderate—i.e., less than about a drink a day. “If you drink a glass of wine every night and notice you eat more afterward, eat less early to account for this,” he says. “Or, if you’re drinking four glasses of wine a week, drink three instead so you’ll won’t feel such a big difference.”
If you’re interested in trying out this eating method, I think it’s a good idea to start slow. Try abstaining from eating for a 16 hour window, for a day or two per week. This can generally be done by skipping one or two meals. Then try to extend it to 24 hours and see how it feels. It’s important to remember that the types of foods that you eat on feeding days do matter. Individuals use intermittent fasting to lose weight fast. In studies done by the NIH, there was reported weight loss with over 84% of participants — no matter which method of fasting they chose (alternate day fasting, the 8/16 method, or another approach)[*]. Science has shown intermittent fasting to be an efficient weight loss tool, sometimes more than simply cutting calories. In one study, intermittent fasting was shown to be as effective as continuous calorie restriction in fighting obesity[*].
Since the beginning of recovery nutrition, the first two or three days (depending on the period of fasting) weight reduction observed further up to 1 kg per day. Then comes a gradual increase in weight, but even after 10 days of recovery, the weight is less than the original. Rapid weight gain in the first week of fasting often indicative of excessive accumulation of water in the organism. Usually it is associated with the use of salt or salt-containing products, as well as the shortage of potassium in the organism. In this case, enough for a few days to take medications potassium (Asparcam or Panangin on one tablet 2-3 times a day) and delete products containing sodium chloride. After 7-10 days recovery stabilized and appetite is very important not to overeat and to move 3-4 meals a day. Basically the rules of restorative nutrition are the same as for normal recovery from fasting. It should reduce the amount of flour food, sweets, animal fats, increasing the amount of plant foods.
The Drinking Detox. If you're not ready to change what you eat, you might start by changing what you drink. Many experts (and smart dieters) will tell you that the easiest way to lose weight is to give up alcohol either permanently or for a short time. Booze provides no significant nutritional benefits, it's full of calories and it may cause you to eat more junk food. For many dieters, simply saying no to alcohol is the best way to detox the body, sleep better at night, boost energy levels, and slim down.
